Soft Tissue Sarcoma is group of cancer that grows in body in the connecting tissues that form the body. There are many types of soft tissue tumors, and not all of them are cancerous. Many benign tumors are found in soft tissues. The word benign means they're not cancer. These tumors can't spread to other parts of the body. Some soft tissue tumors behave in ways between a cancer and a non-cancer. However, when we talk about sarcoma that means cancer only. They can be found in any part of the body. Most of them start in the arms or legs. There are almost 50 types of soft tissue sarcomas.
Symptoms of Soft Tissue Sarcoma
Problem with diagnosis of of soft tissue sarcoma is that it mostly presents as painless lump. However, the symptoms may include:
Lump that is increasing in size
Stomach pain that gets worse
Passing black or bloody stool
Blood traces in vomit
Unexplained Weight Loss
The best part to start with when it comes to diagnosis of sarcoma in India is to see a good orthopaedic cancer specialist or a bone cancer surgeon who would be able to differentiate between a soft tissue sarcoma and lipoma. Meaning to say not all soft tissue growth are sarcomas, they can be lipomas which are harmless fat deposits. If the bone cancer specialist feels that this might be sarcoma then you could be advised
X ray
MRI
Ultrasound
Tissue biopsy.
It case any of the above tests suggests that it could be cancer then the next step is to understand the staging of the disease.Staging of the disease means to understand if the disease is localized or has spread to other parts of the body.
